Olson Statement on State of the Union

January 21, 2015

Washington, DC –Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) issued the following statement in reaction to President Obama's 2015 State of the Union address:

"What we heard was the latest installment of six years of failure: instead of uniting all Americans, our president again kept marching to the same class warfare pitting one group of Americans against another in a push for political advantage. In his first moments working with a new GOP Congress, the president should be looking for opportunities to work together to strengthen our economy and work for the American people. I did not hear that tonight.

"As we continue to work for a better America, we must develop solutions that increase opportunity for all Americans – with more jobs, better wages, and lower health care, energy and education costs.  We need a fair and simple tax code that helps working families - not tax and spend Washington bureaucrats.

"We need an energy policy that works for America. With our abundance of natural resources, and private sectorinnovation, we are creating jobs, lowering costs and providing real energy security. President Obama’s failure to support construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline Project will prevent more than 40,000 American jobs from being created and send friendly Canadian oil to China instead of here.

"All I heard tonight was more of the same tired rhetoric that created the slowest recovery in history and hurts middle class families working to make ends meet. This year, America will see the positive vision of a Congress that remains steadfast in our belief in the people who live and work in this great nation. We will continue to promote positive, economy strengthening policies that work for us, instead of against us. I urge President Obama to remember November 6, 2014 and join us in our pro-growth agenda and put people before politics."
