Olson Votes for North American Energy and Jobs
Washington, DC –Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today voted again to immediately authorize construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would bring North American oil from Canada into the US and to our refineries in Texas. This is the tenth vote the House has taken to approve the pipeline. The Senate is expected to take up a similar bill soon. The bill passed the House by a vote of 266 – 153.
“Americans and our strong friend and ally Canada have been waiting for six years for President Obama to listen to his own State Department by approving the Keystone XL pipeline,†Rep. Pete Olson said. “The House has now voted to approve it 10 times and I expect the Senate to pass it as well. There are no more excuses. The Obama Administration is the only one blocking this pipeline. Is President Obama prepared to deny shovel-ready jobs to tens of thousands of Americans and stall on an opportunity to increase North American energy security? It’s time for the president to say yes to the Keystone XL pipeline.â€
Today, the Nebraska State Supreme Court ruled that three landowners who sued in opposition to the pipeline failed to show they had legal standing to bring their case. This legal decision clears the way for the Keystone XL pipeline to move forward. State Department reviews, under both former Secretary Hillary Clinton and Secretary John Kerry, concluded that this pipeline does not present a threat to the environment.
