ICYMI: Vitter, Black, Olson Applaud GAO Decision to Audit Planned Parenthood
The Government Accountability Office (GAO) will conduct a report on the use of taxpayer funding by the family planning organization Planned Parenthood after Senator David Vitter (R-La.), along with Representatives Diane Black (R-Tenn.) and Pete Olson (R-Texas), led a group of more than 120 members of Congress advocating for the inquiry.
Vitter, Black, and Olson led the push for the audit and commended GAO’s decision to examine how federal taxpayer dollars are spent within the controversial organization. GAO previously reported in 2015 that Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, received approximately $500 million per year in taxpayer funds.
GAO to audit Planned Parenthood at request by David Vitter, others
By Richard Rainey | April 18, 2016
Planned Parenthood has long sat in the crosshairs of anti-abortion lawmakers, including Sen. David Vitter, R-La., who praised a renewed investigation this month into the family planning organization. The Government Accountability Office agreed on April 7 to once again inspect federal financing for Planned Parenthood at the urging in March of more than 120 members of Congress. "We absolutely need to shed light on how these types of organizations are spending federal funds, and I suspect the forthcoming GAO report will confirm our fears of Planned Parenthood's inexcusable misuse of taxpayer dollars for abortion," Vitter said Monday (April 18) in a statement. ….. Good News: GAO Accepts Request to Investigate Planned Parenthood Funding
By Cortney O’Brien | April 19, 2016
Last month, over 120 members of Congress issued a request to the Government Accountability Office to investigate the federal dollars being doled out to Planned Parenthood every year. The effort was spearheaded by Reps. Diane Black (R-TN) and Pete Olsen (R-TX), along with Sen. David Vitter (R-LA). Specifically, the legislators wanted to know how the funds were made available and the federal agencies associated with them. The lawmakers are entitled to this information, they insisted, since the Obama White House has often claimed to be open and transparent. Thankfully, they didn’t have to put up much of a fight. The GAO complied, noting how the legislators' request was “within its authority.†Over a half billion dollars is saved for Planned Parenthood annually. This should make any pro-lifer shudder. The organization claims to be all about women’s health care, but it can’t gloss over the fact it performs over 300,000 abortions a year. Our government is rewarding this with millions of dollars in resources? ….. Click here to read the remainder of the article.
How Much of Your Tax Money Does Planned Parenthood Get? A New Report Will Tell You
By Steven Ertelt | April 18, 2016
As Americans mark Tax Day today, they currently send hundreds of millions of their tax dollars to Planned Parenthood — the nation’s biggest abortion company. Just how much are Americans forced to send? A new report will tell you. Earlier this year, pro-life members of Congress demanded information from the Obama administration on all of various ways it funds the nation’s biggest abortion business. On average, Planned Parenthood receives approximately $500 million a year in taxpayer funds, as a GAO report indicated last year. Now, they want the agency to update the information so taxpayers know exactly where their money is going. Reps. Diane Black (R-TN-06), Pete Olson (R-TX-22) and Senator David Vitter (R-LA) issued the following statements in response to the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) decision to accept their request to investigate the use of federal funding allocated to Planned Parenthood and related organizations:…. Black, Olson, Vitter Laud GAO Decision to Investigate Federal Funding of Planned Parenthood and Related Groups
By Newsroom | April 18, 2016
Congressmen Diane Black (R-TN-06), Pete Olson (R-TX-22) and Senator David Vitter (R-LA) issued the following statements in response to the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) decision to accept their request to investigate the use of federal funding allocated to Planned Parenthood and related organizations:
“I thank the GAO for acting responsibly and committing to carry out our request for an independent review of the taxpayer funding provided to Planned Parenthood and related organizations,†said Congressman Diane Black. “As a nurse for more than 40 years, I know that abortion is not healthcare and I am incensed that, year after year, my constituents see their money sent to Washington and distributed to organizations that promote or perform abortions all under the guise of ‘healthcare’ services. This is a sham and it is an affront to the conscience rights of every American taxpayer. By shining a light on the federal funding allocated to these organizations we can mobilize the support needed to defund the big abortion industry and reroute those dollars to organizations that uphold life while protecting women’s health.â€â€¦..
