Olson Acts to Find 21st Century Cures
Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today voted to help deliver more cures, treatments, and therapies to patients and bring our health care system into the 21st century. H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, is an important bipartisan initiative that will make needed reforms and spur medical innovation to make a real difference in people’s lives. There are 10,000 known diseases (7,000 of which are rare) and treatments for only 500 of them. The bill passed the House by a vote of 344 to 71. It now heads to the Senate for action.
“The 21st Century Cures Act lays the groundwork for critical medical breakthroughs that gives hope to patients that new and better treatments are on the horizon,†Rep. Pete Olson said. “Every American knows someone impacted by a debilitating or deadly illness. In the 21st Century, we have a critical opportunity to make needed reforms, and invest in the research that will result in the innovation and technological advances that improve quality of life and deliver more hope to patients and their families.â€
The 21st Century Cures Act:
