Olson Acts to Protect the Unborn
Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today acted to protect unborn children old enough to feel the pain of a late term abortion. Olson co-sponsored and voted for H.R. 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which prohibits abortions on unborn children 20 weeks or older. Medical evidence shows that by 20 weeks, unborn children can feel pain. The bill also provides important exemptions for rape, incest and the life of the mother. H.R. 36 passed the House by a vote of 237-189 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.
“Congress has an obligation to speak up for those who can’t speak for themselves,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “Medical technology has proven that unborn babies can feel pain at the 20 week mark. America is one of only seven nations that still allow abortion after 20 weeks. It’s time to end this barbaric practice. This bill is an important step to protect unborn children and the health of their mothers. I thank my House colleagues for acting to protect the lives of unborn children and I urge my Senate colleagues to do the same.”
