Olson Announces Artistic Discovery Art Competition
Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) calls on all high school students in the Twenty Second Congressional District of Texas to participate in the Congressional Art Competition. This competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents. Since then, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition. The Artistic Discovery Contest is an opportunity to recognize and encourage the artistic talent in the nation, as well as in each Congressional District.
“Every year thousands of talented young artists from across America submit unique perspectives on the American experience through their artwork,†Rep. Olson said. “Their talent is a reflection of their hard work and artistic vision. Thousands of people who visit the Capitol every year have the opportunity to view artwork from creative young students from all across America. I encourage all budding artists in TX-22 to enter this competition and share their talent with others in Texas and our nation’s capital.â€
The first place winner from the 22nd Congressional District will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. As part of this competition, the district first place winner receives complimentary airfare to fly to Washington, D.C. to see their art displayed in the Capitol Building during an unveiling ceremony.
Artwork is due to the Sugar Land or Pearland office by Friday, April 29th. Artwork must be two-dimensional and be submitted to Rep. Olson's Sugar Land or Pearland office unframed. In addition to the artwork, participants will need to submit the student release form. For rules, regulations and criteria, please visit Olson’s website: http://1.usa.gov/1VPdmKI.
