Olson Announces Katy Student Naval Academy Appointment
Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today announced that Jordan Rapp of Katy, TX received an appointment to the U.S .Naval Academy for the fall of 2016. Rapp is a student at Houston Christian High School and a TX-22 resident. He is ranked 7th in his class, an Eagle Scout, athlete and a strong community leader. Olson will present Rapp with a proclamation congratulating him on his appointment and remind him of the importance of serving as an officer in the United States Armed Forces. Rapp is the first TX-22 student to receive an academy appointment this year.
"Jordan Rappâ€™s appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy is a reflection of his academic excellence and outstanding community service," Rep. Pete Olson said. "His accomplishment brings enormous pride to our community. It's an honor to recognize Jordan as one who has committed to protect and defend our nation through service in one of our military academies. As a former Navy pilot, I'm thrilled to congratulate Jordan, who has expressed his desire to become a Surface Warfare Officer. I'm confident he will honorably serve our nation with pride and distinction."
Military academy appointees are evaluated for a variety of qualifications including: moral character, strong academic record, demonstrated leadership potential, physical fitness, and commitment to serve a five-year military term in the United States Armed Forces upon graduation.
