OLSON APPLAUDS EXTENSION OF SECTION 214 AUTHORITY
Congressman Pete Olson today applauded House passage of an extension of the Section 214 authority included in the Water Resources Development Act through 2016. Section 214 allows the Secretary of the Army to accept and expend funds contributed by non-Federal public entities to expedite the processing of permits through the Army Corps of Engineers.
“Though I support a permanent extension of Section 214 authority, this temporary extension is an important step in the right direction,†Rep. Olson said. “Entities such as the Harris County Flood Control District use section 214 authority to move forward with vital infrastructure and maintenance projects that have minimal environmental impact. I will continue to push for a permanent extension of this authority in the next Congress.â€
Last December, Olson introduced H.R. 4162, to make permanent the authority of the Secretary of the Army to accept and expend funds contributed by non-Federal public entities to expedite the evaluation of permits under the jurisdiction of the Department of the Army.
