Olson Applauds Passage of Highway Bill and Grid Reliability Measure
Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today voted to provide certainty for America’s infrastructure needs by voting in support of the Conference Report to H.R. 22, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. This comprehensive bill allows states and localities to plan and deliver important transportation projects that need long-term certainty. The bill includes Reps. Olson, Gene Green and Mike Doyle’s bipartisan grid reliability bill, which fixes a critical glitch in federal law that has forced power generators to choose which federal law they must violate. This legislation has been introduced and passed unanimously in the two previous congressional sessions. The FAST Act was passed by a vote of 359-65.
“Today we are finally giving piece of mind to power producers who, in an emergency, have been forced to choose whether to violate a DOE emergency order to provide power or environmental laws that expose them to punitive fines,†Rep. Olson said. “This common sense solution allows us to provide a reliable energy supply to all Americans and avoid risking reliability for energy consumers. I’m also pleased that for the first time in a decade, we passed a comprehensive transportation bill to address national priorities and give states and local governments more flexibility to safely and efficiently move goods and people across our nation.â€
