Olson Applauds Supreme Court Decision To Block Obama Clean Power Plan
Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today issued the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision to block President Obama’s EPA federal regulations to curb carbon dioxide emissions from power plants until legal challenges are complete:
“The Supreme Court was right to halt this overly-strict and legally-questionable carbon regulation. Twenty seven states and a number of industries that would be directly impacted by this so called Clean Power Plan have argued it will have an immediate and harmful impact on our nation. In Texas alone it will impact electric grid reliability, raise costs for consumers and shut down our most reliable power plants. Equally troubling, despite the tremendous costs and legal precedent, EPA itself has a hard time pointing to measurable climate benefits. As the courts continue to consider this rule’s legality, I will continue to argue that the costs - both for consumers and state sovereignty - far outweigh the benefits of this dangerous plan.”
*The State of Texas has determined that the Clean Power Plan will shut down at least 4 gigawatts of coal power and increase consumer prices by 16%.
