Olson Calls For Securing Our Border

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today released the following statement after President Donald Trump’s Oval Office address:

“America is a compassionate nation. Here in Texas we know firsthand the contributions new immigrants bring to our economy and our state. This must be balanced with true border security and compassion. We can never accept families being split and children being taken advantage of on illegal journeys to America.  We also have a sacred duty to protect our loved ones at home from dangerous criminals, terrorists, human traffickers and drug smugglers who pour into our country illegally through the southern border. There can be no more revolving doors of crime.  These issues must be openly negotiated. There can be no ultimatums from either side.”

“Additionally, we have a responsibility to fully fund our government and ensure paychecks flow to the hundreds of thousands of federal workers who are performing vital work on our behalf without pay.”

“That’s why both parties in Congress and the president must find a solution immediately to end this partial shutdown and fully open the government. I support the president’s insistence that the new Democrat House leadership end their ultimatums and stop playing political games.  We can and must secure our border, open our government and show true leadership and compassion as we start this new Congress. We owe the American people nothing less.”
