Olson Opposes Funding for Planned Parenthood
Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today acted to protect the unborn and pro-life advocates by voting against a short-term spending bill. The House passed Senate amendments to H.R. 719 to provide appropriations for current government functions through December 11, 2015. The bill passed by a vote of 277 - 151. Olson voted no.
“We must stop the process of governing by crisis,†Rep. Pete Olson said. “Senate Democrats are holding the taxpayers hostage by forcing them to fund a morally bankrupt organization that negotiates price and procedure to harvest the parts of innocent unborn babies. The fact that abortion advocates are so beholden to Planned Parenthood that we couldn’t even defund this organization in a short-term spending bill is a sad reflection of their priorities. I will continue every effort to defund Planned Parenthood and protect the unborn.â€
Olson joined with Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) and several House colleagues in offering an amendment to the spending bill to defund Planned Parenthood. The amendment was not included in the final version that passed on the House floor.
