Congressman Pete Olson

Representing the 22nd District of Texas

Press Release

Washington, DC - Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement of praise for his colleague Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and other Senate Republicans for taking to the Senate Floor and giving voice to the millions of Americans who oppose Obamacare:

"Since a Democrat-controlled Congress passed Obamacare three years ago, the opposition of the American people to this massive, unworkable government takeover of our nation's healthcare system has continued to grow. President Obama has issued numerous delays and given big businesses and unions special exemptions, but none for the American people.

"I have opposed this monstrosity from day one. In the House, we have voted 41 times to fully or partially repeal and defund it. We are listening to the American people who call, write and beg us at town hall meetings to relieve them of this burden. Last week, my colleagues and I in the House passed a bill that fully funds government operations and fully defunds Obamacare.

"But we need the Senate to act, and my Texas colleague Senator Ted Cruz and many other Senate Republicans have been working to achieve this goal. Yesterday, he took to the Senate Floor and for over 21 hours he stood to articulate our case to all Americans, and to urge Senate Democrats to vote to keep the defunding of Obamacare in the budget bill.  I hope that Senate Democrats will come to their senses and listen to him.

“I applaud Senator Cruz’ efforts to force Senate Democrats to give voice to the American people who have said no to this bad law. We will not stop our efforts to protect the people who elected us from bad laws that impose government control over their lives."
