OLSON REFLECTS ON SEPTEMBER 11TH ANNIVERSARY
WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement on the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the US:
"America was forever changed on September 11, 2001. That tragic day saw airplanes turned into bombs, killing almost 3,000 Americans, and slamming the rest of us with a wave of shock and helplessness. The strength of our nation was tested, but our compassion and our solemn resolve helped us get through the tragedy together, persevere and come out stronger on the other side.
"The attacks on our way of life showed the worst of humanity; they also brought out the best in America. That day brought forth so many unnamed heroes, and in the years since, countless more. Heroes, who rescued us, took to the battlefield for us, and who brought justice to the villains who perpetrated this attack. Our service members have paid a heavy price for the success of keeping the war on foreign shores. We have lost 6,580 men and women in this fight, and today, we also honor and remember them.
"Today, on the 11th anniversary of that tragic day, we take a moment to remember our brothers and sisters who were lost on that fateful day and in the years since. We honor the heroes who rushed into burning buildings to save strangers. We thank the men and women who have sacrificed their lives to keep us safe. May God bless the Americans we lost, the servicemen and women who protect us and may God bless America!"
