Olson Slams Obama Oil Tax Proposal

February 4, 2016
Press Release

Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today issued the following statement in response to reports that President Obama is advocating a $10 per barrel oil tax to fund transportation projects:

“At a time when the oil industry is hemorrhaging jobs thanks to record low oil prices, this proposal is short sighted and will only hurt consumers and an industry that powers America. This president will stop at nothing to impose his radical, job crushing agenda on the backs of all Americans. Higher oil taxes mean higher energy costs for families filling their gas tanks and more layoffs for the men and women who are employed by the energy industry. As Houstonians worry about further layoffs, this is a slap in the face to the people charged with providing affordable and reliable energy for our homes and businesses. I will fight this punitive tax with every resource at my disposal – it is dead on arrival in the House. “
