Olson Statement on Act to Censure Rep. Schiff
Washington, DC — Today House Democrats tabled H.Res. 630, Condemning and censuring Adam Schiff, Representative of California’s 28th Congressional District, a resolution co-sponsored and supported by Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) that highlights the numerous examples in which Rep. Schiff (D-CA) shared untruths and outright falsehoods in order to advance House Democrats’ so-called “impeachment inquiry.”
In response, Olson stated the following:
“The Democrats’ impeachment sideshow continues to be enshrouded in secrecy and distracts from issues Americans care about like lower drug prices and the USMCA trade deal. The ringmaster of this unhinged circus is Congressman Adam Schiff who makes false accusations and refuses to provide transparency in his partisan attempt to remove a duly elected president from office. Schiff said he had ‘more than circumstantial evidence’ of Russian collusion — he had none. While chairing a House Intelligence Committee hearing, he made the outrageous claim that President Trump told Ukrainian President Zelensky ‘I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent’ — President Trump said no such thing. Schiff also asserted that his team had ‘not spoken directly with the whistleblower’ — another lie. These wild fabrications hurt the credibility of Congressman Schiff, and make a mockery of the People’s House and our constitutional process. The American people deserve leaders who serve our nation’s interests with honor and transparency. Congressman Schiff has fallen well short of that standard and the House should have an opportunity to vote on his censure.”
House Republicans moved to bring up the censure resolution for a vote in the House. House Democrats moved to table the resolution preventing a vote on the measure. The final vote to table (or block) the censure resolution was 218-185.
