Olson Statement on DHS Funding Vote
Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) tonight issued the following statement after voting against a short-term bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) that failed to address the illegal executive actions taken by President Obama to suspend deportations and offer work permits for more than four million undocumented immigrants:
"Funding for DHS should not be held hostage by Senate Democrats who refuse to even allow a vote on measures to block the president's actions that disregard existing federal law and violate our Constitution. Until we have clarity in the courts on the current order to block implementation of President Obama's illegal actions, I cannot support this. That's why I voted no on this spending bill. While I worry about a possible temporary shutdown of DHS, I am more concerned about the long-term ramifications of implementing an illegal policy that cannot be reversed."
