Congressman Pete Olson

Representing the 22nd District of Texas

OLSON STATEMENT ON HOUSE PASSAGE OF LEGISLATION TO APPROVE THE KEYSTONE XL PIPELINE

May 22, 2013
Press Release

Today Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) issued the following statement after voting for American jobs, North American energy and the ability to reduce our reliance on hostile sources of oil:

"The Keystone XL Pipeline has been studied ad nauseum; it's been 1,706 days since the application was submitted to the Obama Administration. The Keystone pipeline is almost 1,200 miles long. At the average speed a human being can walk, three miles an hour, it would take 393 hours to walk the pipeline's route. That means you could walk the entire line round trip about 53 times in the days since the application was submitted for approval. At least walking would be some sort of action.

"We need the 20,000 American jobs and the 800,000 barrels a day of oil from our trusted ally, Canada. America needs the Keystone XL pipeline. The Senate should pass this bill as soon as possible."

H.R. 3, the Northern Route Approval Act would bypass the administration’s delays by removing the need for the Presidential Permit. This legislation also includes important provisions that will eliminate further roadblocks to construction.
