Olson Statement on Impacts of White House Final Climate Rule

August 3, 2015
Press Release

Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today issued the following statement in response to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issuing their final "Clean Power Plan" regulations to curb carbon emissions from power plants:

“President Obama is again trying to exceed his authority and the limits of the Clean Air Act with this sweeping final rule. We will only learn its full impact as states and power producers in charge of keeping the lights on begin to fully implement the rule. But it is deeply disturbing that the president and the EPA are making top down decisions on Americas electric grid that seemingly continue to ignore warnings from grid operators and local officials. Just last week in Texas, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) began asking users to conserve power as our power grid is reaching maximum capacity. The reliability of our nation’s power supply must be the priority as America seeks to balance clean air with our energy needs.”
