Olson Statement on Obama Proposal For Offshore Drilling

January 27, 2015
Press Release

Washington, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement in reaction to the Administration’s Draft Proposed Plan for the 2017-2022 offshore oil and gas leasing program, which would potentially open more areas for drilling offshore in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia:

"Any consideration that opens more of our rich natural resources to domestic drilling offshore is worthy of praise. I applaud this proposal, but I am deeply disappointed that President Obama continues to take one step forward and one step back on domestic energy production.

"While rightly proposing to open more areas of the Atlantic to offshore drilling, the President has also announced plans to block many critical areas of Alaska to drilling that would actually reduce the areas available for further analysis. It's also disappointing to see swaths of the Gulf of Mexico still excluded under this proposal. America needs a comprehensive energy plan for our Outer Continental Shelf exploration. This Administration seems determined not to provide one."
