Olson Statement on Resolution of Disapproval of Rep. Joe Wilson
Rep. Pete Olson today issued the following statement in opposition to the House passing a Resolution of Disapproval against Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC):
“Last Thursday, the day after the President’s speech, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said, ‘…it was time to move on and discuss health care.’ I could not agree more. We have important issues to debate and address in Congress. This vote today was nothing more than a distraction for House Democrats who do not have the support in their own caucus to pass health care reform. It is disappointing that they cannot accept the apology offered by Rep. Wilson and accepted by the White House so that we can move forward with the work of the people.
“Republicans have offered numerous proposals that could be included in any reforms the House considers, but our ideas have been ignored. Republicans have a plan to allow individuals to use the same tax incentives available to corporations to purchase health insurance. We can increase competition by opening state high risk pools and allowing for the purchase of insurance across state lines. We can also make health insurance more portable so that you don’t lose coverage if you lose or switch jobs. It’s time to stop playing political distraction games and get to work.â€
