Olson Statement On Speaker Ryan Announcing He Will Not Seek Re-Election

April 11, 2018
Press Release

Washington, DC – Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement in response to House Speaker Paul Ryan’s announcement he will not seek re-election at the end of this term:

“Speaker Ryan has been a strong leader of this House and he will be sorely missed. He took on the challenging job of leading our House at a time of extreme change and turmoil after Speaker Boehner’s retirement.  The job of House Speaker is perhaps the most difficult in Washington. His leadership has been great for the State of Texas. He helped lift the crude export ban and led the way for huge tax cuts to get our economy rolling.

“I’ve known Paul Ryan to be a steady leader under difficult circumstances. I am proud to have called him a colleague, a leader and a friend. I know it means a great deal to him to have more time with his family. As we say in the Navy, I wish Paul, Janna, Liza, Charles and Sam fair winds and following seas.”
