Olson Votes to Combat Human Trafficking
Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) this week voted for twelve bills to combat human trafficking, a growing problem in Houston and America. These bills will improve the tools available to law enforcement, identify and develop best practices to prevent human trafficking, help victim survivors recover, train government employees on how to properly detect and respond to human trafficking, and more. Human trafficking is a nationwide and international problem that must be stopped now.
"The I-10 highway corridor runs through the northern part of Fort Bend County and has been called `the most intense trafficking jurisdiction in America,' according to the Justice Department," Rep. Pete Olson said. "Human trafficking is a modern form of slavery that is growing across the US as well. Every child deserves a safe upbringing, not one stolen by sexual predators for profit. I hope the Senate will act quickly to help us protect our children from this vicious victimization."
It is estimated that human trafficking in the United States is a $9.8 billion industry that affects 300,000 children. Below is a list of the bills passed by the House to end this horrific tragedy.
