Press Release

Rep. Pete Olson (R-TX) today acted to help Americans keep more of their hard earned money by voting to pass H.R.2029, the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act. This bill provides certainty to families and businesses by making more than 50 temporary tax deductions a permanent part of the tax code. Among its provisions, the PATH Act permanently extends deductions for charitable tax donations and state and local taxes, a critical provision for the State of Texas. The bill also includes several reforms to rein in the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and prevent tax fraud and abuse. The House passed H.R. 2029 by a vote of 318 to 109.

“Making many of these tax provisions permanent provides needed certainty for families and businesses,” Rep. Pete Olson said. “Since Texas has no state income tax, allowing Texans to deduct state and local sales taxes from their federal returns levels the playing field and keeps more money in their wallets. Making charitable donation deductions permanent also encourages community giving to our neighbors in need. This is an important step to protecting American taxpayers and strengthening our economy.”
